Job Description:

The City of Columbia Civil Service Board will conduct examinations for the position of Police Officer. Beginning salary starting at $16.51 per hour. Requirements: High school degree or GED, must be 21 years of age and have a valid Driver’s License, Class D. For file to be complete, applicant must submit a copy of birth certificate and high school diploma or GED certificate when application is submitted.  Attach documents online or submit to Human Resources at City Hall.  Successful completion of a Personal History Questionnaire will be required to qualify applicants to take the written civil service examination and physical agility test. Sworn Police Officers are required to live within a 19.5 mile radius of the Columbia Police Department, 707 North Main Street, Columbia, TN. Sworn Police Officers will be permitted one year from date of hire to come into compliance with the residency requirement. All candidates must successfully complete a thorough background investigation. Civil Service examination date and time will be announced to qualified applicants by letter. Physical examination, drug screening and psychological will be required prior to employment.
